How Do We Create the Statistics?

Based on data from real measurement results of our users, we create a summary of the speeds of Internet providers in many countries and cities. We publish the results on the website on a monthly or quarterly basis.

How Do We Create the Statistics?

Transparency is important to us. Here's exactly how we compile our internet speed statistics.

Data Collection

User Tests

  • All data comes from real users taking speed tests
  • No synthetic or simulated data
  • Tests from all times of day
  • Various device types and locations

What We Collect

  • Download speed
  • Upload speed
  • Ping/latency
  • ISP information
  • General location (city/region)
  • Test timestamp

What We DON'T Collect

  • Personal information
  • Exact addresses
  • Browsing history
  • Device identifiers
  • IP addresses (stored)

Data Processing

Filtering

We remove outliers and invalid tests:

  • Tests with network errors
  • Extremely high or low values (statistical outliers)
  • Duplicate tests from same user within 1 hour
  • Tests from VPNs or proxies

Aggregation

We group data by:

  • Country
  • City/Region
  • Internet Service Provider
  • Time period (month/quarter)
  • Connection type (Fiber, Cable, DSL, etc.)

Statistical Analysis

For each group, we calculate:

  • Median speed: Middle value, less affected by extremes
  • Average speed: Mean of all values
  • 90th percentile: Speed that 90% of users achieve
  • Sample size: Number of tests included

Publishing Schedule

Monthly Updates

  • Major cities and providers
  • Countries with high test volume
  • Updated on the 1st of each month

Quarterly Updates

  • Smaller cities and regions
  • Low-volume providers
  • Regional comparisons
  • Published every 3 months

Data Quality Assurance

Minimum Requirements

To publish statistics for a location/ISP:

  • At least 100 unique tests
  • Tests from at least 50 different users
  • Data spread across at least 2 weeks

Verification

  • Cross-reference with industry reports
  • Compare with previous periods
  • Flag unusual changes
  • Manual review of edge cases

How to Interpret Our Statistics

Median vs. Average

  • Use median for typical experience
  • Use average to understand overall capacity
  • Median is usually lower than average

Time of Day Matters

  • Peak hours (6-10 PM): Usually slower
  • Off-peak (2-6 AM): Usually faster
  • Our statistics show all-day averages

Your Mileage May Vary

Factors affecting your personal results:

  • Your specific location within the city
  • Your home network setup
  • Time of day you typically use internet
  • Your specific plan tier

Contributing to Better Data

You help by:

  • Taking regular speed tests
  • Testing at different times
  • Using our platform consistently
  • Reporting any issues with the test

Data Privacy

Our Commitment

  • Anonymous aggregation only
  • No selling of data
